Medical insurance
Those who are registered residents in Japan are obliged to enroll in the public medical insurance.
Upon enrollment, you will receive the “insurance card”.
You need to bring your “insurance card” when you visit a hospital.
By having medical insurance, you pay less yourself when you go to the hospital.
There are three types of medical insurance.
(1)Social insurance
Company employees and their family members are eligible for social insurance.
Your company will process the application.
The insurance premiums are paid from your monthly salary.
(2)National Health Insurance
People who do not have insurance for (1) are covered.You will complete the procedure when you register as a resident at the City Office.
(3)Late-stage elderly medical care insurance
Those aged 75 (65 with certain disabilities recognized) and older are covered.
You will complete the procedure when you register as a resident at the City Office.
What to bring
Document that shows your personal number (My Number) Identification document (such as Residence Card, passport and driver’s license)
